March 26th, 2011 from 8:30-9:30pm
Please turn off all your lights and limit your electricity use for one hour
This year, for sure, we are participating in Earth Hour. While I know one hour of restricted electricity use is not going to save the world, the awareness it generates is a good step. We try, every year, to participate.
In 2009 on Earth Hour, Saturday March 28th, we had a tiny 3 day old baby in our arms. And we totally forgot about Earth Hour. I think you can forgive us. Exhausted new parents as we were, I don’t think either of us knew what day it was or had turned on the news or our computers, which would have reminded us about Earth Hour. Sorry Mother Earth, I am trying to make it up to you.
In 2010 though, we fully participated. I remember drinking a glass of wine by candle light and knitting. It was lovely and peaceful. More then just a gesture of environmental awareness, it was an opportunity to slow down and connect. Look at the stars and listen to the peaceful sounds of night.
I am looking forward to it this year again. What I wonderful yearly tradition. Will you join me?
